When does the forex market close?

The market closes for the weekend on Friday at 5:00 PM New York time, at the end of the New York session. It does not close during the week: when New York ends, the Sydney and Tokyo sessions are already starting.

Forex futures hours are different

Currency futures traded on CME Globex follow the exchange timetable: Sunday to Friday, 5:00 PM to 4:00 PM Central Time, with a 60-minute break each day beginning at 4:00 PM CT (quoted from the CME Group Euro FX futures specifications). 5:00 PM Central Time is 6:00 PM in New York.

Daylight saving and forex times

New York moves its clocks on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November (NIST). London moves them on the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October (GOV.UK). Sydney moves forward in early October and back in early April (NSW Government: 4 October 2026 and 4 April 2027). Tokyo does not use daylight saving. See the forex time zone converter for your own city.

Holidays

There are no official forex holidays, but liquidity falls when big centres are closed, and many brokers shorten their hours around Christmas and New Year. Always check your broker’s holiday schedule. Exchange holidays, for example the NYSE calendar, are on the stock market hours page.

There is no official schedule for forex sessions: the foreign exchange market is traded over the counter between banks and brokers around the world. The session hours on this site follow the common market convention (each centre from its morning to its late afternoon). Exchange hours are quoted from the exchanges themselves.
