Type your broker’s prices, your balance, risk and stop loss. The calculator shows the pip value, the position size that matches your risk, and the margin needed.
Type the current prices from your broker. One standard lot = 100,000 units of the base currency (100 ounces for gold). One pip = 0.0001, or 0.01 for yen pairs and gold. This is arithmetic only, not a trading recommendation.
How the forex calculator works
- Pip value = lot size in units x pip size, converted from the quote currency into your account currency. One standard lot is 100,000 units; one pip is 0.0001 (0.01 for yen pairs).
- Position size = amount you risk / (stop loss in pips x pip value per lot).
- Margin = trade value in your account currency / leverage.
Example: on EUR/USD with a USD account, one pip on one standard lot is 100,000 x 0.0001 = 10 USD. Risking 100 USD with a 20-pip stop gives 100 / (20 x 10) = 0.5 lots.
Brokers can use different contract sizes, especially for gold and other metals. Check your broker’s contract specifications. Trading with leverage can lose more than you expect; this is arithmetic, not advice.
